DIY Wooden Wine Rack – A Unique Design That Holds 6 Bottles + Glasses
Most wine racks just hold bottles. This one holds six bottles and hangs your glasses underneath — and you can build it in an afternoon with basic tools. Here's exactly how I made it.
If you fancy making one yourself, I've put the full plan together — measurements, angles, everything you need. It's £4 over on Buy Me a Coffee.
Step 1: Designing the Shape
To hold six bottles around a half circular shape, I needed six sides. To figure out the cutting angle, I used a super simple formula:
180 ÷ number of sides = angle for each cut
So for 12 sides:
180 ÷ 12 = 15 degrees
I set my mitre saw to 15° and cut each segment—easy!
Step 2: Gluing and Reinforcing
I glued all the segments together to form the shape and taped them with gaffer tap to keep them in place. Once dry, I cut slots across the joints with the mitre saw and added 3mm plywood splines. This gave the wine rack extra strength and added a nice visual detail too.
Step 3: Sanding and Finishing
Once the glue was dry and the splines were trimmed flush, I sanded everything down until it felt smooth to the touch. Then I applied a couple of coats of Danish Oil, which gave the whole thing a warm, natural finish.
Final Touches
The result is a compact wine rack that holds six bottles and has space underneath to hang a couple of glasses. It’s perfect for a kitchen counter or bar cart—and it’s unlike anything I’ve seen for sale.
The whiskey is one of my favourites, Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey, a real treat after making.
